FRSIS Objectives

The Fully Residential Schools International Symposium (FRSIS) was established in 2011 and is organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia under the Fully Residential Schools Management Division, with support from the National Commission for UNESCO Malaysia.

The Fully Residential Schools International Symposium (FRSIS) aligns with the vision of Fully Residential Schools to develop “World-Class Leaders” who can excel in a globally interconnected world.

This international programme provides pupils with invaluable opportunities to engage in cross-cultural exchanges, enabling them to acquire and apply knowledge meaningfully while fostering a global mindset through critical thinking, and creativity.

As such, FRSIS plays a crucial role in developing pupils’ leadership skills by involving them in the planning and execution of international events. Through their participation in the working committee, pupils gain firsthand experience in programme management, ensuring smooth coordination and successful implementation.

The symposium has significantly contributed to shaping individuals with intellectual agility, competitiveness, and leadership excellence. By fostering adaptability, strategic thinking, and global awareness, FRSIS cultivates transformational leaders who are prepared to make a meaningful impact on the world stage.

SO, WHY SHOULD KUSESS HOST THE 13th EDITION OF FRSIS?

Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuala Selangor or Kuala Selangor Science School (KUSESS), is nestled along the northern coast of the state of Selangor, in a quaint little town called Kuala Selangor. Set in the vicinity of Kuala Selangor Nature Park, as well as the Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Sanctuary, KUSESS is indeed the perfect setting for this symposium which focuses on ecotourism.

The estuary of the great Selangor river and mangrove forests that fringe and form the natural border between land and sea is home to the Brahmini Kites, Malaysia’s very own russet brown bald eagle, the near extinct Silver Leaf Monkeys, the world renowned synchronic – flashing fireflies, mudskippers and a host of creatures that are native to this mangrove eco-system. Just off the coast, in the middle of the Straits of Malacca, are sandbanks that form Malaysia’s very own Sky Mirror. The Kuala Selangor Nature Park is also a haven for bird watchers as it is also lies in the migratory path of birds seeking warmer climates from the harsh winter chills.

The fact that it was once the royal town of Selangor, Kuala Selangor also boasts a hill called Bukit Malawati where the still functioning Alstingburg Lighthouse is. Panoramic views of the nature park, the Straits of Malacca, as well as the scenes of the fishing village of Pasir Penambang from the hilltop make it an amazing photo stop. The remnants of a cannon-laden fortress, a beheading block for traitors called Batu Hampar, that still sends shivers down the spine of many, a museum filled with historical nuggets, plus a hill which is also the playground for both Silver Leaf Monkeys and brown macaques , makes Kuala Selangor the perfect poster child for ecotourism.

So welcome to Kuala Selangor! KUSESS is awaiting your arrival with open arms.
